Main Duties
Specialist Mentor - Autism Spectrum Conditions
Pay - £16.50/hour
● To support students to develop learning strategies to assist them in overcoming difficulties associated with Autism. Support may include:
Motivation and goal setting
Strategies for effective time management
Organisational skills
Study and exam preparation skills
Stress or anxiety management
Social interaction
Study Assistant
Pay - £16.00/hour
● To assist students to take a full part in learning activities on equal terms with other students in lessons
● To support the students in their physical needs, mobility and health and safety as appropriate
● To work with course tutors to ensure the students are successfully inducted into the college environment
● To become familiar with specialist equipment, learning how to use it for the benefit of the student
Notetaker
Pay - £15.50/hour
● To attend lectures, tutorials and other classes and take notes as requested. You must:
Agree the required content and format of notes with the student
Produce accurate, clear, accessible and appropriately detailed notes for students in the required format
Provide an accurate typed copy of the notes to students within an agreed time limit, normally 24hrs
Offer clarification on any notes that are not clear for the students within an agreed time period
Essential Requirements
Education and Professional Qualifications
All Support Roles
Educated to SCQF9 Bachelor’s degree level or equivalent
Previous Experience/Training
Specialist Mentor - Autism Spectrum Conditions
Professional or voluntary experience of working with adults with Autism
Experience of supporting students in higher education with the development of learning strategies and appropriate study techniques
Experience in the development of learning plans which are appropriate to the needs of students in a further/higher education environment and which include the development of strategies and techniques to promote independent learning and progression
Study Assistant
Professional or voluntary experience of working with adults with additional support needs
Experience of supporting students in higher education with the development of learning strategies and appropriate study techniques
NotetakerPrevious note-taking experience
Experience of note-taking in the higher education environment
Proven ability to produce accurate and concise notes
Good word processing skills
Interpersonal Skills
All Support Roles
Excellent written communication skills and ability to communicate with students on a one to one basis using exceptional interpersonal skills
An understanding of the responsibilities associated with maintaining confidentiality and an awareness of the requirements under data protection legislation
Other Factors

PVG membership or update required with HTS as countersignatory
Successful completion of mandatory Safeguarding Training and Suicide Awareness Training through HTS
Desirable

● A social work qualification
● Knowledge or experience of IT used to support students with ASC and disabled students which may include Read and Write, Claro-read and applications which assist with Mind Mapping
● Understanding of the impact a diagnosis of Autism and/or a specific disability may have on participation in the FE/HE environment
● Experience in the development of learning plans which are appropriate to the needs of students in a further/higher education environment and which include the development of strategies and techniques to promote independent learning and progression.
